IceHorse Rescue

Simba, A Rescue

In February, 1998 I bought (rescued) an Icelandic from a stable in Macungie, PA. Simba, as he was called, was severely underweight and had not been well cared for for some time. He was being used as a gymkhana pony due to his speed. I have gotten 100 to 200 pounds on him (he needed it), solved a severe worming problem, and caught an early condition of cancer on his penis and sheath wall which was rectified by the New Bolton Center (I really love this animal, so the dollars were not material. I would have bought him even if he were not rideable, because I could not have left him where he was.) Simba (13.1 hands, 12-15 years old) is a flaxen chesnut and is now fat, happy, and has a wonderful tolt. I trail ride him several times a week. He is an incredible trail horse.

I would love to know if anyone can help me solve the mystery of where he is from, who might have owned him, and what his real name is. Sara Conklin, with whom I spoke briefly about my discussion to rescue him, thought he might have belonged to a woman named Jane Borish (??) at one time.

The people from whom I bought him indicated that they bought him at an auction which was for household and farm goods, not animals. He was not even on the bill of sale. At the end of the auction, a neighbor brought him over and said that they had been caring for him. I have the impression they paid about $50 for him.

Thanks for your help.
